This project, conducted by the Municipal Development and Lending Fund (MDLF), on behalf of the Palestinian Authority, concerns the construction of a landfill located at Al Fukhari, in Gaza. A first study was conducted by DHV in 2012. Antea Group/EMCC/Engicon has been assigned to do a review of this study. The site consists of blocks numbered 5056 and 5057 of Fukhari land plots of area 215,000 m2 (215 donums). Land has been appropriated by presidential decree 135 of year 2012. Prospective land acquisitions are expected to increase available land area to 225 m2. Al Fukhari Sanitary Landfill is intended to accept 152,000 m3 of municipal solid waste (MSW) per year, or about 400 m3 of MSW per day during the initial operation period, growing to 212,000 m3 per year in 2017. Al Fukhari Landfill is expected to provide solid waste disposal services to municipalities in the south of Gaza, including Deir al Balah, Khan Yunis and Rafah, through the Joint Service Council in Khan Younis, Rafaha and Middle Gaza Governorates (JSC-KRM). Acceptable waste streams include non-hazardous municipal solid waste from households, enterprises; street sweeping and market waste, and excludes materials collected separately for recycling purposes, hazardous waste, infectious waste, building debris and odoriferous waste.
